St James Church, Barrow – refurbishment of bell tower and bells

Following the successful refurbishment of the main church roof and interior, Leck was asked to refurbish the church bell tower and bells, which had not rung for 11 years for fear the bell hangings and ringing floor may collapse.

We dismantled all the bells (some weighing 2.5 tonnes) ringing mechanism and floors in the tower, and replaced them in steel and new timbers, with the Bells being sent to Westminster Foundry for restoration and re-tuning. The Bells are now fit to be rung for many years to come.
